A Word From The Prez

Hello to all who have entered this website to check out our little patch on earth.

I'd like to take this time to let you all know about the members of our club, and those that support us.  The intro tells when we were founded and all that jazz. I'd like to share with you about the individuals.

My name is Bear.  I am still fortunate enough to be the President of Artemis Recovery Club. Although I've riden bikes since I was 18 or 19, I really did not experience the true pleasure of motorcycling until I got sober in 1989.  That was in Bakersfield, California.  For those of  you who know where that is, I don't have to explain.  For those of you who don't, it's the armpit of the San Joaquin Valley, in Central California. I am very much involved in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous (as are all of our members) and have learned through the years that the best way to learn patience and tolerance is to have Jewels pick out the next jigsaw puzzle.

Kirby is our Vice-President.  She lives in Bakersfield and has been sober for about 16 years.  She is no longer the only one of us who has made it to Sturges.  Kirby learned how to ride bikes when she lived here in Fresno with the rest of us.  She started out on a Kawasaki.  We have had quite a few funny-ass stories about her early years in the seat and we certainly don't let her forget any of them no matter how old they may be.  It's too much fun giving her some shit now and then.  She is now on her second Harley...a 2006 Road King.   Kirby is addicted to gadgets.  Gadgets of any kind, any color and any shape...especially if there electronic and warm you.  Just as long as it will do something is all that matters to her.  Wanna make a good conversation? Show her a new toy!!  Her partner is Cindy and although Cindy is a normie, she is supportive of Artemis and what we stand for.

Oops! is our Treasurer.  It has been decided that she will die being our Treasurer.  I think when Opps! goes up to the pearly white gates, she'll tell God He has to give her a minute to make sure her books are in order, and all receipts have been handed in!  Oops! has also been riding for quite a few years and got her road name cuz she fell over in the driveway, stood back up, and said Oops!   (sometimes road names are given for the simplest of reasons)  She is working on nearly 20 years of sobriety and has the heart of a million angels.  I am sure I am not the only one who believes we would not be who we are today if not for this wonderful woman.

Todd (aka - Crazy Frog) is our Road Captian and Oops's husband. He is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.  He is a very quiet and sweet and spiritual soul.  Although he probably would not think so, he represents a fther figure to alot of us, including me.  His sence of humor is wicked...lethal....and f***ing hilarious. (when he let's it loose)  He and I are on the same eating schedules (although he seems to pray longer the hungrier I am!), so we travel well together.  Todd is the Saturday night cook at the run and a big help to the club throughout the year. Last year he finally got himself his first Harley, a 2007 Road King Classic, white pearl and blue....very pretty.  He certainly deserves every piece of chrome that comes his way.

Yuu-Go is our Sgt. of Arms.  She patched out on July 19, 2007 and has become an intrigal part of our club.  She is also one of the Amigos who did the Sturgis Run this year.  She's working on eleven years of sobriety and has a great program working for herself. She is motorcycle crazy, has a Dyna and will ride anytime she has the opportunity.

Deanna is one of the newer patch holders.  She has wanted to be with Artemis for years and finally got herself a bike and joined up.  D verges on being a big book thumper and has an enormous knowledge of the program and the big book.  She is still a little green in the seat but learning as each mile goes by.  She needs a road name as her's was retired on June 6, 2009.  Maybe one will pop up this season that she likes a bit better????

A-Bar is, well.......A-Bar is just A-Bar.  Very quite and reserved until she gets comfy with ya and then I suggest you hang on to your ass and get ready.  She is one of the funniest women I have ever met.  She is the fourth Amigo to do the Sturgis 2008 run and you can read her ongoing perception of that trip, along with mine, Kirby's and Yuugo's in the writing section.  A_Bar is the self appointed President-in-Training, or PIT for short.  Her comfort level has increased to a ten since last Blossom where as Oops! says, "We teased her out of her underwear".  I will let her tell ya that story!

Kellie is now our new Prospect.  She's been around the tables for about 14 years and if I am not mistaken I have had the pleasure of knowing her for all of them. She is a sweet soul and is searching for some fun and fellowshipping.  She takes her prospective duties very seriously and tends to plan ahead before each run to see what she will need to help out.  She is yet to get a road name but I am sure is it only a matter of time before that happens!

Jewels (aka - Princess) is my wife and partner in life.  At one time she was a patch holder with the club. She is presently our ARC Associate and a true spirited supporter of any and all motorcycling events that we get an itch to attend.  She got the motorcycling  bug from her Dad, who had her riding at a very young age.  Jewels is the computer whiz of the group.  She is the graphic creator of the Artemis Recovery Club patch and this website. She also gets our run flyers set up and helps out at the Blossom Run.

Well, that makes up our club.  A hand full of folks who love life, sobriety, and motorcycles.  We are a small, mixed group from different walks of life but with similarities in more ways than I have time to list and you have time to read.  Let it suffice to say, that we are like siblings and fiercely devoted to each other.  We accept each other just as we are, without reservation, and support each other in all we strive to achieve.

We have a ton of other people who help us with the Blossom Run, Fresno Pride Parade, and just in general with our everyday lives.

To all of you....we are truly indebted.

Bear
